What is the Chabad Center for Jewish Life & Learning?

• Is the Chabad Center a synagogue, school or an outreach organization?
• Does it service the religious or non-religious community?
• Who are the people at Chabad?
• Is Chabad for my family and me?

The Chabad Center is your local branch of Chabad international.  Acceptance of every Jew, regardless of background, affiliation, age or financial status, is the guiding force of the Chabad movement. Chabad helps Jews appreciate their roots and identify proudly with their Judaism.

We would like to introduce you to the Chabad Center and our community programs.

A Center for Every Jew

At Chabad, all Jews, regardless of their background, affiliation or level of observance, are already members! We conduct services in a warm and casual atmosphere. Many of those who attend our services do not read Hebrew, yet everyone feels at home. The prayers are sincere and inspiring, enhanced by the special spirit of joy and song.

Our growing young community hosts weekday and Shabbat services, holiday programs, Bar & Bat Mitzvah training, and warm and dynamic rabbis and rebbetzins who are sure to make you feel at home. Come for the uplifting sermon, stay for the delicious Kiddush luncheon!

Children play an integral role at Chabad, and have their own special children's service and childcare.

From the now famous Annual Chanukah on the River (est. 1997) at the Arneson River Theater, to a Menorah lighting in front of the Alamo; from Sushi in the largest Sukkah in Texas to themed Purim celebrations, Chabad’s innovative and joy-filled holiday programming are legendary.

Learning for Every Jew

Our Chabad is a learning center for Jews from all walks of life and of all denominations. Indeed, everyone feels comfortable with the style and approach. The programs do not require any synagogue affiliation.

Our adult education program includes weekly ongoing Torah classes, women's classes, seasonal courses and stand-alone series, guest speakers and renowned lecturers.

The Chabad Center is a  founding affiliate of the world’s largest Adult Education networks, the JLI - Jewish Learning Institute. The JLI is a unique adult education program where one can acquire the essentials of Jewish literacy, regardless of one’s background or level of observance. It is accepting, interactive, practical, and academically stimulating. The JLI courses uncover timeless wisdom on an array of topics including Jewish ethics, Jewish mysticism and philosophy, equipped with the modern tools of today - comprehensive textbooks and materials, streamlined curriculum and a professional multi-media presentation - presented by knowledgeable, compassionate and passionate rabbis and rebbetzins.

Tomorrow's Leaders

Today’s youth are tomorrow’s leaders. At Chabad we place a great emphasis on nurturing the idealism, energy and creativity within youth to foster a brighter tomorrow.

Chabad offers its own Gan Gani Preschool, Hebrew School of the Arts, Camp Gan Israel and CTeen events- a place where the joys, values and traditions of Judaism are brought vividly to life. This experience represents a positive, cheerful and enjoyable chapter of the child's and young adult’s maturing process. Our goal is for the children to be left with deeply rooted feelings of pride and affection for their Jewish heritage.

Established 1998, Gan Gani Preschool is where an enriching Jewish educational environment is created for each and every child, providing an early foundation that prepares them for the transition to elementary school, and instills children with a lifetime passion for learning and pride in their Jewish heritage. Specialty enrichment classes include Literacy, Music, Gardening, and Hebrew.

Hebrew School of the Arts is where inspired Judaism— holidays, values, history, prayer, Mitzvot, Hebrew reading, and Parshah— is brought to life through art, cooking, theater, music and science. This weekly Jewish experience gifts Jewish children ages 4-12 a lifetime of meaningful Jewish connection.

Since 1985, Camp Gan Israel has enjoyed a well-earned reputation as a trendsetter, striking the perfect balance of good old fashion summer fun with the best programming and professional instruction out there. Picture an ideal summer where a child’s body, mind, soul and spirit is both nurtured and celebrated—all while lifelong friendships are forged with children from throughout San Antonio’s Jewish community.

Through a fusion of fun, friendship-building events, humanitarian outreach, regional and national events, mitzvah observance, and engaging Torah study, CTeen-- the famed club revolutionizing teen programming throughout the world— empowers teens to build core values that stresses positive character development, while cultivating a strong sense of Jewish identity, pride, and mission. Our Bar and Bat Mitzvah Clubs shows girls and boys why their Mitzvah is much more than a party!

A Home Away From Home

Whether you're looking to form meaningful new friendships, delve into our rich heritage, or a community to celebrate a Jewish holiday or life-cycle event, Chabad is your home. Here we are all family, seeking to connect with our deepest selves, and connect with others. Through women's events, senior luncheons, a vibrant young adult community, a community Mikvah and so much more, Chabad is a hub of social, educational, and spiritual community.

Our Unique Rabbis & Rebbetzins

Established in 1985, our team of Rabbis & Rebbetzins have imbued our community with Chabad’s warm, enthusiastic and non-judgmental approach to all Jews.

They are each a team, husband and wife, and offer an open and sincere setting to discuss, explore and experience Judaism and all of life's dynamics.

By taking a personal interest in the material and spiritual well-being of every Jewish man, woman and child, the rabbis & rebbetzins warmth and vitality adds a special dimension to the San Antonio Jewish Community.
